Title: Workshop on Actuarial Practices
9:30 – 10:30: Mr. Iyad Hourani, FSA, FCIA, Managing Actuary & Director, Mouhanna and Co.
Abstract: This session will focus on the role of the actuary in the context of retirement systems in general, and pension funds in particular. It will discuss the main types of actuarial valuations and the different stages of a valuation exercise. Finally, practical examples and a case study will attempt to link concepts and actual practice.

10:30 – 11:30: Mrs. Remy Makhlouf Youssef , Market Risk Associate, Bank Audi
Abstract: This presentation highlights the role of risk management while giving a practical understanding of different financial risks and methods for managing them.  Case studies will target liquidity and interest rate risk while presenting some quantitative techniques and examples for measuring and monitoring these risks. Finally an example from the last financial crisis will demonstrate the significant losses financial risks can cause and thus exemplify the importance of Risk Management.

Abstract: This presentation will give an overall introduction to the reinsurance business and the various risk mitigation methods it provides for insurance companies. It will equally highlight the important roles that actuaries play in the insurance / reinsurance sector. The presentation will be concluded with a practical example related to reinsurance pricing for motor business.
